The heme detoxification pathway in Plasmodium species, particularly *Plasmodium falciparum*, is a critical biochemical process that enables the parasite to survive within host red blood cells by polymerizing toxic free heme into inert crystalline hemozoin. Several antimalarial drugs act by inhibiting or disrupting hemozoin formation, leading to accumulation of toxic free heme and parasite death.
