The Hepatitis C virus antigen, or polyprotein, is a large precursor protein encoded by the viral genome. It is processed by host and viral proteases to produce all the mature structural (Core, E1, E2, p7) and nonstructural (NS2, NS3, NS4A, NS4B, NS5A, NS5B) proteins essential for viral replication and assembly. It is a key target for direct-acting antiviral drugs.
