Histamine release via the immune system is a process where mast cells and basophils, upon activation (typically by IgE cross-linking), release histamine. This release triggers various physiological effects mediated by histamine receptors (H1R-H4R). It is a central event in allergic reactions and other inflammatory conditions, leading to vasodilation, bronchoconstriction, pruritus, and chemotaxis of immune cells. Antihistamines can block the histamine receptors. Severe reactions like anaphylaxis require epinephrine.
