Overview

The HPV16 E7 11-19 peptide–HLA-A*02:01 complex consists of a nine–amino acid peptide (amino acids 11–19 of the HPV16 E7 protein) presented in the binding groove of the class I MHC molecule HLA-A*02:01 on the cell surface. This structure is recognized by cytotoxic T lymphocytes as a target for anti–tumor or anti–viral immune responses. The E7 oncoprotein, expressed in high-risk HPV–infected cells (notably cervical and some head and neck cancers), is essential for the viral-mediated disruption of cell cycle control and oncogenesis[1][3][9]. Its 11–19 peptide is a well-characterized immunodominant epitope for T cell recognition when presented by HLA-A*02:01, a common human leukocyte antigen. This complex is therefore a major focus for therapeutic vaccine development, adoptive T cell therapy, and immune monitoring in HPV-related cancers. Eligibility for such interventions depends on tumor expression of E7 and patient HLA type.
