Human Immunodeficiency Virus Type 1 Antigen (Gag p24) (None)

Target
None
Molecular classification
Viral protein, Structural protein
01

Overview

The HIV-1 Gag p24 protein is a major structural component of the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) capsid, forming the core shell that encases and protects the viral RNA genome. It is essential for viral replication, assembly, and infectivity. Detection in blood serves as an early indicator for acute HIV infection and is a biomarker for monitoring disease progression or treatment efficacy. Recombinant forms are used as standards in ELISA/Western blot assays. It has been also explored as a vaccine antigen candidate.
