HPV neutralizing antibodies are antibodies produced by the human immune system in response to HPV antigens, either through natural infection or vaccination. These antibodies target the viral capsid proteins, particularly L1, and prevent HPV infection by blocking viral entry into host cells. The primary mechanism of action of HPV vaccines is the elicitation of these neutralizing antibodies. They are mostly type-specific but sometimes display cross-reactivity.
