HSD3BP5 is annotated as a pseudogene in the human genome. It shares sequence similarity with active 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD, such as HSD3B1 and HSD3B2) genes responsible for catalyzing a key step in steroid hormone biosynthesis, but HSD3BP5 does not encode a functional enzyme. Pseudogenes like HSD3BP5 may be remnants of gene duplications or evolutionary events and are usually not transcribed or translated into functional proteins. Therefore, it does not serve as a therapeutic target, has no known physiological or pathological role, and is not a drug target.
