Immune cell activation refers to the process by which immune cells are stimulated to respond to pathogens or abnormal cells. Novel mechanisms of immune cell activation involve newly discovered molecular pathways or cellular processes that differ from classical models of immune signaling. These include enhanced helper-killer T-cell synergy, trained innate immunity, cell adhesion-mediated activation, and novel signaling through pattern recognition receptors.
