The immune system's antibody production is a critical process involving B lymphocytes that produce antibodies (immunoglobulins). These antibodies bind to antigens on pathogens or foreign substances, marking them for destruction or removal. Key functions include neutralizing toxins, opsonizing pathogens, activating complement, and mediating antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity.
