Immune System Stimulation via Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) Vector (MVA Vector)

Target
MVA Vector
Molecular classification
Viral vector, Vaccine platform
01

Overview

Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) is an attenuated, replication-deficient poxvirus used as a vaccine vector to stimulate the immune system. It delivers genes encoding target antigens, which are expressed by host cells and presented on MHC molecules to T lymphocytes, stimulating both innate and adaptive immune responses. Key pathways activated include TLR2/TLR6-MyD88, RIG-I/MDA5-IPS-1, and the NALP3 inflammasome. MVA is used in vaccines against infectious diseases and cancer immunotherapy.

Mechanism of action

MVA infects antigen-presenting cells and delivers genes encoding target antigens. These antigens are expressed by host cells and presented on MHC molecules to T lymphocytes, stimulating both innate and adaptive immune responses through pathways like TLR2/TLR6-MyD88, RIG-I/MDA5-IPS-1, and the NALP3 inflammasome.
