Immunoglobulin Epsilon Chain C Region, Membrane-Bound Form (IgE)

Target
IgE
Molecular classification
Immunoglobulin, Receptor, B-cell receptor
01

Overview

The immunoglobulin epsilon chain C region (membrane-bound form) is the constant region of the heavy chain specific to Immunoglobulin E (IgE), an antibody isotype produced by B lymphocytes. This membrane-bound form acts as a receptor on the surface of B cells during the recognition phase of humoral immunity. Upon antigen binding, it triggers clonal expansion and differentiation of B cells into plasma cells that secrete IgE antibodies. Secreted IgE mediates effector functions primarily through interaction with Fc receptors on myeloid and lymphoid cells: high-affinity receptor: FcεRI complex; low-affinity receptor: FCER2 (CD23). These interactions are central to allergic responses and defense against certain parasites.
