Immunoglobulin heavy variable (III)-26-1 (IGHVIII-26-1)

Immunoglobulin heavy variable (III)-26-1 is a human pseudogene belonging to the immunoglobulin heavy chain variable region family. Unlike functional immunoglobulin variable region genes—which encode the variable domains of immunoglobulin heavy chains (critical for antigen recognition in antibodies)[1][5][6]—IGHVIII-26-1 does not encode a functional protein and is not expressed in B lymphocytes or incorporated into mature immunoglobulins. The immunoglobulin heavy chain locus (IGH) contains multiple variable, diversity, and joining gene segments (V, D, J), some of which are functional and some pseudogenes. IGHVIII-26-1 is among the latter and contributes no direct function to antibody generation or immune response[2][4][6].
