The human immunoglobulin (IG) locus contains multiple functional variable (V), diversity (D), and joining (J) gene segments that, through recombination, create the vast diversity of antibodies in the adaptive immune system. However, some V gene segments, such as IGHV3-62, are annotated as pseudogenes, meaning they are non-functional and do not produce a protein product. These pseudogenes do not contribute to the antigen-binding repertoire and have no known biological or therapeutic function. Functional IGHV genes are critical for encoding the variable domains of antibody heavy chains, which recognize specific antigens, but IGHV3-62 is not among these functional segments.
