Overview

Immunoglobulin heavy variable 3-79 (IGHV3-79), also referred to as 3-79P or IGHV379, is a member of the variable region genes of the immunoglobulin heavy chain (IGHV) locus. However, IGHV3-79 is classified as a pseudogene, meaning it does not encode a functional protein product[1][4]. The IGHV locus contains both functional variable genes important in antigen recognition (as part of antibody molecules) and a large number of pseudogenes, which are non-functional due to accumulated mutations or truncations[1][4]. As a pseudogene, IGHV3-79 does not participate in the creation of antigen-binding sites in antibodies and is not considered a therapeutic target, receptor, or drug-interaction partner. There is no current evidence for involvement in disease, utility as a biomarker, or known safety concerns for this locus. Relevant references distinguish between functional and non-functional IGHV genes, and IGHV3-79 is consistently listed among the pseudogenes[1][4].
