Immunoglobulin kappa variable 2-38 (IGKV2-38) is classified as a pseudogene belonging to the immunoglobulin kappa variable family. Immunoglobulin variable genes such as this one are part of the large family of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes that encode the variable domain of antibody light chains, involved in antigen binding[1]. However, as a pseudogene, IGKV2-38 does not encode a functional protein and thus does not participate directly in immunological recognition, antibody formation, or serve as a therapeutic target. The canonical immunoglobulin kappa variable regions are essential for generating antibody diversity through V(D)J recombination, but pseudogenes like IGKV2-38 are generally nonfunctional, do not undergo productive recombination, and are not used as therapeutic or diagnostic markers[1].
