Immunoglobulin lambda variable 1-50 (IGLV1-50) is a gene segment encoding the variable region of the lambda light chain of human immunoglobulins. However, it is considered a probable non-functional open reading frame—meaning mutations or sequence changes prevent it from participating in normal antibody generation. The variable regions of immunoglobulins play a crucial role in antigen recognition and humoral immune responses, but only functional V gene segments contribute to antibody diversity and immune protection. IGLV1-50 does not produce a productive light chain and therefore has no direct role in immunity or as a therapeutic target.
