Immunoglobulin lambda variable 3-32 (IGLV3-32) is a variable region gene segment of the lambda light chain of immunoglobulins, classified as a probable non-functional open reading frame. This means that, although structurally a part of the immunoglobulin lambda locus, alterations at the DNA or protein level prevent it from producing a functional immunoglobulin light chain—either due to defective V-(D)-J recombination, splicing, or non-conserved amino acid changes. In functional immunoglobulins, the variable domains are critical for specific antigen recognition and immune response, forming part of the antigen-binding site together with the corresponding heavy chain's variable region. However, IGLV3-32 itself does not contribute to these immune functions because it is considered non-functional. Immunoglobulin variable regions as a family are central to adaptive immunity and antibody diversity, but IGLV3-32 does not encode for any productive or pathogenic immunoglobulin light chain, nor is it a drug target, receptor, or biomarker. It is, therefore, not considered a therapeutic target or a clinically actionable molecule.
