Overview
Inflammatory cytokines are a group of signaling proteins, notably TNFα and IL-6, that mediate and regulate inflammation. TNFα is produced mainly by macrophages and induces cell death or survival signaling. IL-6 is produced by various cells and induces acute-phase protein synthesis. Both are implicated in various diseases and are therapeutic targets.
