Influenza Virus Hemagglutinin Protein (Seasonal Strains) (HA)

Target
HA
Molecular classification
Glycoprotein, Viral protein, Surface antigen
01

Overview

The influenza virus hemagglutinin (HA) protein is a trimeric glycoprotein found on the surface of influenza viruses, including seasonal strains. It mediates viral attachment to host cells and fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane. HA is a major target for neutralizing antibodies, and its high variability due to antigenic drift and shift necessitates regular updates to seasonal flu vaccines.
