Overview

Innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) in mice are a family of antigen receptor-negative lymphocytes that play a crucial role in the innate immune response at mucosal surfaces and tissues. These cells, derived from common lymphoid progenitors, are divided into several groups: natural killer (NK) cells, ILC1, ILC2, ILC3, and lymphoid tissue inducer (LTi) cells. ILCs contribute to tissue homeostasis, immunity against pathogens, regulation of inflammation, and formation of lymphoid structures. Unlike T and B lymphocytes, ILCs lack rearranged antigen receptors and are defined by their ability to secrete cytokines rapidly. Dysregulation of ILCs is implicated in multiple diseases, including cancer, autoimmunity, inflammation, allergy, and infection. The term “mouse lymphoid cell” is not a defined molecular target but refers broadly to these diverse immune cell populations.
