01

Overview

Inosine-5'-monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH) is a key enzyme in purine metabolism, catalyzing the NAD-dependent oxidation of inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) to xanthosine 5'-monophosphate (XMP). This reaction represents the first committed and rate-limiting step in the de novo synthesis of guanine nucleotides, which are essential for DNA and RNA synthesis, signal transduction, and energy transfer. IMPDH exists as two isoforms, IMPDH1 and IMPDH2. It is targeted by immunosuppressant and anticancer agents.
