Insect olfactory receptors, also known as odorant receptors (ORs), are specialized proteins expressed in the cell membranes of olfactory sensory neurons (OSNs) in insects. They form heteromeric ligand-gated ion channels with Orco, enabling the detection of volatile chemicals and playing critical roles in behaviors like foraging, mating, and host detection.
