Integrin alpha X (CD11c) is a leukocyte-specific cell surface protein that associates with integrin beta 2 (CD18) to form the complement receptor type 4 (CR4). This integrin is pivotal in the adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells, migration, and phagocytosis of complement-coated particles. CD11c serves as a canonical marker for dendritic cells, but is also expressed at significant levels on monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, and some B lymphocytes.
