Overview

Integrin alpha X (CD11c) is a leukocyte-specific cell surface protein that associates with integrin beta 2 (CD18) to form the complement receptor type 4 (CR4). This integrin is pivotal in the adhesion of leukocytes to endothelial cells, migration, and phagocytosis of complement-coated particles. CD11c serves as a canonical marker for dendritic cells, but is also expressed at significant levels on monocytes, macrophages, neutrophils, and some B lymphocytes. Functionally, it is crucial for antigen presentation and immune cell activation, and is implicated in a wide range of immune and inflammatory processes, as well as certain leukemias and inflammation-associated diseases like acute graft-versus-host disease[1][2][3][4][8].
