Invariant natural killer T cell receptor (CD1d-restricted)

Molecular classification
T cell receptor, Receptor
01

Overview

The invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cell receptor is a unique T cell receptor (TCR) characterized by its restriction to CD1d and its ability to bind glycolipid antigens. In humans, it typically consists of an invariant Vα24-Jα18 paired with Vβ11. iNKT cells recognize glycolipid antigens presented by CD1d, leading to rapid cytokine secretion and influencing immune responses in cancer, infection, autoimmunity, and allergy/inflammation. Modulation of iNKT activity is being explored for immunotherapy.
