Overview

IQCJ-SCHIP1 is a protein produced via read-through transcription between the IQCJ and SCHIP1 genes, resulting in a fusion product characterized by motifs from both parental genes, including an IQ calmodulin-binding domain and a coiled-coil domain[3][4][5]. It is highly expressed in the brain and localizes to cytoplasmic and actin-rich sites, including axon initial segments and nodes of Ranvier[1][3]. IQCJ-SCHIP1 interacts with various neural cytoskeletal and channel proteins, such as ankyrin-G, βIV-spectrin, and Kv7.2/3, which suggests a key scaffolding and organizational role in neural architecture[1][2]. Although alterations in its function can modify axonal and nodal shape, it is not required for the accumulation of key nodal proteins[1]. There is currently no known role for IQCJ-SCHIP1 as a therapeutic drug target, nor are there established disease associations, clinical biomarkers, or safety concerns[1][3][7].
