Overview

Keratin, type I cytoskeletal 10 (KRT10), is a member of the type I (acidic) cytokeratin family and an intermediate filament protein predominantly expressed in suprabasal keratinocytes of the epidermis[1][2][3][4][5]. KRT10 forms heterodimers with keratin 1 to establish a robust cytoskeletal network that confers structural integrity and resilience to the skin, contributing to the epidermal barrier and differentiation[4][5]. Mutations in KRT10 are associated with skin diseases such as epidermolytic ichthyosis (epidermolytic hyperkeratosis), and its aberrant expression has also been implicated as a marker for tumor invasiveness and poor prognosis in cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma[3][5]. Despite its importance in structural functions, KRT10 is not a classical therapeutic target like receptors, enzymes, or transporters but is used diagnostically and as a biomarker in skin and cancer pathology[1][3][5].
