CK7

Overview

Keratin, type II cytoskeletal 7 is a structural protein encoded by the KRT7 gene in humans. It is a type II (basic/neutral) keratin predominantly expressed in simple epithelial linings of internal organ cavities, gland ducts, and blood vessels. Keratin-7 forms heterodimers with type I keratins (such as keratin-19), contributing to the cytoskeletal structure and mechanical integrity of epithelial cells. It plays critical roles in cell adhesion, migration, and signaling, and serves as an important immunohistochemical marker for the identification and differentiation of certain carcinomas, including ovarian and transitional cell carcinomas. Keratin-7 is not considered a direct drug target but is widely utilized in diagnostic pathology to assess tissue origin of tumors
