Keratin 125, pseudogene (KRT125P) is one of eight type II keratin pseudogenes (KRT121P–KRT128P) found within the keratin gene cluster on chromosome 12q13.13. Of these, KRT125P–KRT128P are classified as epithelial keratin pseudogenes. Pseudogenes like KRT125P are remnants of formerly functional genes, lacking an intact coding sequence and not expressed as functional protein. The existence of KRT125P is primarily relevant for genomic mapping and nomenclature; it has no known biological or clinical function in humans, nor is it considered a therapeutic drug target. Should functional orthologs for KRT125P exist in other species, those would be catalogued without the pseudogene suffix and may possess distinct biological roles.
