Keratin associated protein 9-10, pseudogene (KRTAP9-10P)

Target
KRTAP9-10P
Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene, classified within the keratin-associated protein family)
01

Overview

KRTAP9-10P is a **pseudogene** member of the keratin-associated protein (KAP) gene family, which means it is a nonfunctional copy and does not produce a protein product. KAPs in general play a structural role in hair and wool, cross-linking with keratin intermediate filaments to provide resilience and rigidity to fibers. The KRTAP family is subdivided by amino acid content (high sulfur, ultrahigh sulfur, high glycine/tyrosine), but KRTAP9-10P itself is an annotated pseudogene and does not fulfill a structural or biological role in hair formation. As such, it is not a receptor, enzyme, or any entity typically considered a druggable or therapeutic target. KRTAP9-10P (keratin associated protein 9-10, pseudogene) is a pseudogene without functional protein product, not serving as a therapeutic target, and lacking biological or clinical significance.
