KH domain-containing, RNA-binding, signal transduction-associated protein 2 (KHDRBS2) is a nuclear protein involved in the regulation of alternative pre-mRNA splicing, affecting splice site selection and exon inclusion by binding to poly(A) and poly(U) RNA sequences. Its activity is modulated by phosphorylation, which can inhibit its RNA-binding function. KHDRBS2 acts synergistically or antagonistically with related splicing factors such as SAM68 and may serve as an adapter protein for Src kinases in mitosis. Clinically, the gene has roles in specific types of renal cell carcinoma, but currently has no established role as a direct therapeutic target[1][2][5][6].
