Overview

KIR2DP1 (Killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor, two domains, pseudogene 1) is a pseudogene belonging to the killer cell immunoglobulin-like receptor (KIR) gene family[1][3][4]. The KIR genes encode transmembrane glycoproteins expressed mainly on natural killer (NK) cells and some T cells, and these proteins normally regulate NK cell cytotoxic activity through interactions with MHC class I molecules[2]. However, KIR2DP1 is a pseudogene and does not encode a functional protein—it is not expressed or biologically active and thus does not act as a therapeutic target or participate directly in immune response signaling pathways[3][4]. The KIR gene family includes multiple functional receptors (both activating and inhibitory), but pseudogenes like KIR2DP1 do not contribute to protein-mediated cellular functions. The KIR nomenclature designates ‘P’ for pseudogenes[4]. Note: - This entry is considered "incorrect" as a therapeutic target because it is not a protein-coding gene nor does it have direct functional or therapeutic relevance. - While the KIR family is significant in immune regulation, KIR2DP1 itself does not have a direct role, and no drugs, biomarkers, or safety concerns are associated with it.
