Target intelligence / Profile preview
L,D-transpeptidases (LDTs) are a class of bacterial enzymes involved in the cross-linking of peptidoglycan, a critical component of the bacterial cell wall. Unlike the more common D,D-transpeptidases (penicillin-binding proteins, PBPs), which form 4-3 peptide cross-links, LDTs catalyze the formation of 3-3 cross-links between adjacent stem peptides in peptidoglycan. They are important drug targets because they confer resistance to β-lactam antibiotics. Carbapenems can inhibit some bacterial LDTs.
