L Protein (RNA-dependent RNA Polymerase) of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (L protein)

Target
L protein
Molecular classification
Enzyme, RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, Polyribonucleotidyl transferase, Methyltransferase
01

Overview

The L protein of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a large, multifunctional enzyme that serves as the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp). It is essential for RSV genome replication and transcription, catalyzing several enzymatic activities required for the synthesis and processing of viral RNAs. The functional polymerase complex minimally requires two proteins: L and P (phosphoprotein). The multiple catalytic activities housed within one polypeptide make L an attractive target for antiviral intervention.
