Lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) is an enzyme encoded by the human LDHA gene and functions as a subunit of the tetrameric lactate dehydrogenase enzyme. LDHA catalyzes the reversible conversion of pyruvate to lactate with concomitant conversion of NADH to NAD+, playing a key role in anaerobic glycolysis, especially in muscle and tumor tissues. Overexpression is frequently observed in cancers, supporting the Warburg effect and tumor proliferation.
