Lactate dehydrogenase A (human) (LDHA)

Target
LDHA
Molecular classification
Enzyme, Oxidoreductase
01

Overview

Lactate dehydrogenase A (LDHA) is an enzyme encoded by the human LDHA gene and functions as a subunit of the tetrameric lactate dehydrogenase enzyme. LDHA catalyzes the reversible conversion of pyruvate to lactate with concomitant conversion of NADH to NAD+, playing a key role in anaerobic glycolysis, especially in muscle and tumor tissues. Overexpression is frequently observed in cancers, supporting the Warburg effect and tumor proliferation. Inhibition of LDHA is actively explored as a therapeutic strategy in oncology, given its role in tumor metabolism and progression[1][2][5][6][7].
