Lesion (or Lesion tissue)

Molecular classification
Other (not a molecular entity; can be classified anatomically as gross, histologic, or biochemical lesion)
01

Overview

A lesion is a general term describing any area of tissue abnormality, injury, or disease-induced change in organs or body structures. Lesions are classified by their morphology (e.g., macule, papule, ulcer, tumor), the tissue or organ affected (skin, brain, heart), or the underlying pathologic process (benign, malignant, infectious, inflammatory). They are a major focus of pathological diagnosis and disease staging, not a specific molecular target. Lesions can result from cancer, infection, immune reactions, trauma, or degenerative processes. The term "lesion tissue" is non-specific and does not refer to a unique molecule, protein, receptor, or therapeutic target.

Biological functions

Other (lesions can disrupt normal tissue function, ranging from cell death, inflammation, scarring, tissue remodeling, to loss/gain of tissue integrity)
