Overview

LRRC78P (Leucine rich repeat containing 78, pseudogene) is a human pseudogene. Unlike protein-coding genes, pseudogenes such as LRRC78P do not produce functional proteins. Pseudogenes are often derived from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and have typically lost the capacity for protein coding through mutations, deletions, or premature stop codons. Though most pseudogenes are considered non-functional "genomic fossils," some are transcribed into non-coding RNA. These transcripts can play regulatory roles by affecting their protein-coding counterparts, serving as sources of small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) or acting as molecular decoys for microRNAs. However, there is no current evidence of any protein product, regulatory function, disease association, or therapeutic interest for LRRC78P specifically[1][3][5][7].
