Lipoprotein(a) (LPA)

Target
LPA
Molecular classification
Serine proteinase homolog, Lipoprotein
01

Overview

Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a lipoprotein particle consisting of apolipoprotein(a) [apo(a)] covalently bound to apolipoprotein B-100. Apo(a) is encoded by the LPA gene and contains multiple kringle IV type 2 (KIV-2) repeats, leading to size polymorphism. Elevated plasma Lp(a) is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Therapeutic strategies focus on reducing hepatic LPA mRNA expression.
