Plasmodium falciparum liver-stage antigens are a group of proteins specifically expressed by *P. falciparum* during its development in human hepatocytes, prior to entering the blood stage. Key examples include liver-stage antigen 1 (LSA-1), liver-stage antigen 3 (LSA-3), liver-specific proteins (LISP1 and LISP2), and Mei2. These antigens play vital roles in parasite replication and the transition from liver to blood stage. Because they are not found in mature blood-stage parasites, they are highly relevant for immune targeting in malaria vaccine development, with immune recognition documented for both B- and T-cell responses. Their stage-specific expression makes them attractive candidates for strategies aiming at pre-erythrocytic immunity—that is, protection before the parasite reaches red blood cells and causes clinical malaria. Some antigens are essential for parasite survival in hepatocytes (e.g., LISP1, PTEX components, Mei2), and several are being investigated as biomarkers for vaccine efficacy and patient selection. If a more specific, singular target designation is required, LSA-1 ("Plasmodium falciparum liver-stage antigen 1") or LSA-3 ("Plasmodium falciparum liver-stage antigen 3") are the most widely studied examples.
