Overview

PCAT19 (long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1190, LINC01190) is a human long non-coding RNA gene clustered on chromosome 19q13.2, comprised of four exons over 46 kb[1][2][5]. Initially identified for its role in prostate cancer progression and poor outcome, PCAT19 has since been implicated in a broad spectrum of cancers via dysregulated expression and function. Mechanistically, PCAT19 acts as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA), binding and inhibiting multiple microRNAs such as miR-142-5p, miR-182, miR-143-3p, miR-429, and miR-335-5p, thereby influencing cell cycle and signaling pathways including MELK, p53, and MAPK[1][2]. Expression of PCAT19 correlates with cancer progression and clinical prognosis, showing both oncogenic and tumor-suppressive effects depending on cancer type and cellular context[1][2][4]. This molecule is considered a promising biomarker and therapeutic target in oncology, though direct drug targeting remains investigational at present.
