LSM3 homolog, U6 small nuclear RNA and mRNA degradation associated pseudogene 5 (LSM3P5)

01

Overview

LSM3P5 is a human pseudogene (non-functional genomic locus) homologous to the LSM3 gene, which encodes a protein component of the LSM protein complex involved in U6 small nuclear RNA and mRNA degradation. While functional LSM3 is essential for normal RNA decapping, degradation, and splicing in cells, LSM3P5 itself does not encode an active protein and is classified as a processed pseudogene. Pseudogenes like LSM3P5 may occasionally exert indirect regulatory effects via RNA-mediated mechanisms, but there is no direct experimental evidence that LSM3P5 is functional or disease-associated.

Mechanism of action

None. No mechanism of action data exists for any drugs or interventions related to LSM3P5.

03

Biological functions

Pseudogenes generally do not encode functional proteins and thus lack direct biological functions. There is emerging evidence that some pseudogenes may play regulatory roles by acting as RNA decoys for microRNAs or regulators of parental gene expression, but no specific functional data or experimentally validated role is attributed to LSM3P5.
04

Disease associations

No direct disease associations.Pseudogenes have been implicated broadly in cancer and other diseases via regulatory non-coding RNA mechanisms, but no published evidence specifically assigns LSM3P5 a role in disease.
05

Safety considerations

None. There are no safety concerns or therapeutic challenges because the pseudogene has no known function in therapy.
