Major histocompatibility complex, class II, DP beta 1 pseudogene is a genomic sequence on human chromosome 6 that resembles the functional gene HLA-DPB1 but lacks the ability to encode a functional protein. HLA-DPB1 is part of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) complex, encoding a subunit of the class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules that play a pivotal role in the adaptive immune response by presenting extracellular peptides to CD4+ T cells. In contrast, the pseudogene version does not produce a functional DP beta chain and is not implicated in antigen presentation or immune signaling. It is a remnant of genomic evolution with no current therapeutic, diagnostic, or direct biological relevance. For structured annotation, this pseudogene should be clearly distinguished from its protein-coding counterpart (HLA-DPB1); only the latter would be relevant in drug discovery, immunity, disease association, and clinical biomarker contexts.
