Overview

Major histocompatibility complex class I molecules are cell-surface glycoproteins expressed on nearly all nucleated cells, responsible for presenting intracellularly derived peptide antigens to cytotoxic T cells (CD8+ T cells). The T-cell receptor specifically recognizes the complex formed by a peptide bound to MHC class I, triggering T-cell activation and immune responses, including programmed cell death in infected or transformed cells[1][5][3][6]. Therapeutic targeting of these interactions underpins multiple immunotherapy modalities. The term "MHC Class I / TCR" refers to their physical and functional interaction but should be separated for precise molecular identification.
