Makorin ring finger protein 6, pseudogene (MKRN6P) is a noncoding sequence in the human genome related to the makorin family of RING finger zinc finger proteins[1][3][5]. Unlike functional makorins—such as MKRN1, MKRN2, and MKRN3, which encode bona fide proteins with roles in ubiquitination and regulation of cellular function—MKRN6P is a processed pseudogene; it does not produce a functional protein and has no demonstrated biological activity. Pseudogenes like MKRN6P are evolutionary relics, comprised partly of sequences homologous to their functional gene counterparts, but lacking the necessary regulatory elements for transcription and translation[5][7]. While some pseudogenes may theoretically have regulatory effects on their parental loci, there is no evidence that MKRN6P has such functions. The true makorin proteins, including MKRN1, MKRN2, and MKRN3, are defined by their zinc finger and RING domains and are implicated in various cellular processes suchs as transcription regulation, cell cycle control, and ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation[5][7]. However, MKRN6P does not share these functional properties. Summary: MKRN6P is a pseudogene, not a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other functional drug target class. It lacks protein-coding ability and is not relevant for therapeutic intervention, mechanistic understanding, or biomarker use[1][3].
