Overview

MBL1P (Mannose-binding lectin (protein A) 1, pseudogene 1) is a human pseudogene annotated with aliases such as COLEC3P and MBL1P1[5]. It is listed in gene databases but does not encode a functional protein; rather, it represents an inactive genomic sequence related to the collectin family. In rodents, genes homologous to human MBL are active (e.g., MBL-A and MBL-C), but in humans, complement activation via the lectin pathway is mediated by the functional MBL2 gene encoding Mannose-binding lectin (MBL)[1][3]. The protein product of MBL2 recognizes carbohydrate patterns on pathogens and apoptotic cells, initiates the complement system, and contributes to immune defense[3]. MBL1P does not have any recognized biological activity, disease association, or pharmacological relevance in human health or therapeutics[5]. MBL1P is a non-coding pseudogene with no functional protein, biological role, or relevance as a therapeutic target. For functional studies, drug targeting, or disease involvement in the context of mannose-binding lectins, the appropriate target is the protein encoded by MBL2 (Mannose-binding lectin 2)[1][3][5].
