Overview

Metallothionein 1D, pseudogene (MT1DP) is a non-protein-coding member of the metallothionein gene family, present in the human genome and transcribed as a long non-coding RNA. Unlike protein-coding MT isoforms, MT1DP is specifically induced in hepatocytes in response to cadmium stress, where it promotes cytotoxicity and apoptosis via interactions with RhoC protein and MT1H through a ceRNA network. MT1DP has been described as having pro-apoptotic activity in cancer cells and is involved in modulating the cellular response to heavy metal exposure, especially cadmium. It is one of several metallothionein pseudogenes encoded in the human genome, with no direct ortholog in mouse. MT1DP is relevant in research for its role in cellular stress responses, but does not represent a classical therapeutic target or protein receptor.

Mechanism of action

Not applicable. MT1DP is not a classical drug target; mechanisms of action described involve its function as a lncRNA modulating protein partners and cellular signaling

03

Biological functions

Cellular response to cadmium (CAD) stressRegulation of apoptosisCompeting endogenous RNA (ceRNA) activityModulation of cell signaling via RhoC/CCN1/2-AKT pathway
04

Disease associations

Cancer (reported as having tumor suppressor activity in liver cancer)Metal toxicity response (cadmium toxicity)Possible roles in immune modulation are inferred from metallothionein family's involvement but unproven for MT1DP directly
