Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but generally nonfunctional; they may arise via gene duplication or retrotransposition and typically do not encode functional proteins[4]. While the canonical MAT2A gene encodes an enzyme that catalyzes S-adenosylmethionine synthesis from methionine and ATP[3][5], the pseudogene variant does not produce an active protein and, therefore, lacks direct biological or pharmacological function.
