MicroRNA-130b (miR-130b) is a small, non-coding RNA molecule that functions as a key post-transcriptional regulator of gene expression by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of target messenger RNAs (mRNAs) [1]. As a member of the miR-130/301 family, it is involved in a wide array of biological processes, including cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) [2]. In many oncogenic contexts, miR-130b acts as an "oncomiR," where its upregulation promotes tumor progression and chemoresistance by targeting tumor suppressors such as PTEN, TP53INP1, and RUNX3 [3]. Beyond oncology, miR-130b plays a significant role in metabolic regulation, particularly in adipogenesis and glucose homeostasis, making it a potential target for obesity and type 2 diabetes [4]. Therapeutic approaches currently focus on the use of antisense oligonucleotides (antagomirs) to sequester overexpressed miR-130b or synthetic mimics to restore its function in specific disease states [5]. However, clinical translation faces hurdles such as ensuring efficient tissue-specific delivery and minimizing off-target effects or unintended immune activation [6].
