Microtubule Function (Indirect Inhibition via Oxaliplatin)

Overview

Oxaliplatin is a platinum-based chemotherapy drug that primarily targets DNA, causing crosslinks and inhibiting replication. While it doesn't directly bind to tubulin or inhibit microtubule polymerization like classical microtubule-targeting agents (e.g., taxanes, vinca alkaloids), it can indirectly affect microtubule function by disrupting cellular processes such as nucleolar stress and impacting the expression/localization of proteins involved in mitotic spindle formation. This indirect effect contributes to its antitumor activity, particularly in colorectal cancer.
