MIR762 host gene (MIR762HG) is a long non-coding RNA gene that encodes microRNA-762 (miR-762)[3]. It is not a protein-coding gene, receptor, or classical drug target. The annotated gene resides on chromosome 7. miR-762, its product, is a small regulatory RNA molecule that modulates gene expression primarily via binding to the 3’ untranslated regions of target messenger RNAs, thus repressing their translation or leading to mRNA degradation. miR-762 is involved in several biological processes, including apoptosis regulation, mitochondrial function, cell proliferation, and epithelial–mesenchymal transition. Dysregulation of miR-762 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases, particularly several cancers (breast, ovarian, head and neck), cardiac injury (myocardial infarction via regulation of apoptosis and mitochondrial function), and bone diseases. The MIR762HG host gene itself is not considered a classical therapeutic target, but its microRNA product may constitute an experimental biomarker for prognosis or disease progression in cancer and cardiovascular disease[1][2][3][4][5]. There is no evidence that MIR762HG or miR-762 are currently directly targeted by any approved drugs.
