MTND1P8 is classified as a **pseudogene** of the mitochondrial NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase core subunit 1 (MT-ND1) gene[2]. Pseudogenes are typically nonfunctional segments of DNA that resemble functional genes but have lost their protein-coding ability due to mutations or truncations. There is no current evidence that MTND1P8 produces a functional RNA or protein product, nor is it recognized as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or clinically actionable biomolecule. The functional homolog, MT-ND1, is an integral subunit of mitochondrial Complex I and associated with mitochondrial function and several human diseases; however, this does not apply to the pseudogene MTND1P8[1][3][7].
